Community Guidelines
Kaleidoscope Writers Community
Principles
- This is not social media. We prioritize focused creative exchange — not likes, noise, or performative posting.
- Diversity of thought. We value different kinds of creative thinking and expression — styles, processes, perspectives.
- Authenticity over fit. You don't need to fit a mold; use your unique gifts to contribute and inspire others.
- Generosity. Give time, attention, and supportive feedback; assume best intentions.
- Beautiful, tasteful, true. Strive for work and responses that reflect craft, care, and honesty.
- Mutuality. Our greatest gifts are each other — collaboration and reciprocity come first. Synergy: 1+1=3.
- Learning-first feedback. Prioritize growth and discovery over perfectionism or harsh critique.
- Discretion. Protect each other's work and privacy; respect confidentiality and boundaries.
Guidelines
- Be here to learn. Prioritize constructive growth over perfectionism. Ask questions, offer examples, and focus on what helps the author improve.
- Generosity first. Give time, attention, and respectful feedback. Start with what works before suggesting changes.
- No social-media behavior. Avoid performative posts, public shaming, pile-ons, or attention-seeking. Keep exchanges intentional and focused on craft.
- Respect diversity of expression. Honor different styles, genres, cultures, and processes. Do not demand conformity to a single aesthetic.
- Share courageously — but within boundaries. Members are encouraged to post vulnerable or unpolished work; expect supportive response, not exploitation.
- Confidentiality is mandatory. Do not copy, distribute, quote, or post another member's work outside the community without explicit written permission. See the full Confidentiality Agreement. This applies equally to images: do not share another member's images, photos, or visual work outside the community.
- Images are not end-to-end encrypted. Images you attach to a piece are stored unencrypted on the server so they can be displayed. Do not attach images containing sensitive personal information, medical content, or anything you would not want a server administrator to see.
- Consent for publication help. When offering to help prepare work for publication, obtain the author's consent for any edits, co-submissions, or public sharing.
- Language & conduct. No harassment, hate speech, or targeted attacks. Challenge ideas, not people. Moderators may warn or remove members for violations.
- Credit & attribution. Credit collaborators and note when work was developed in community workshops.
- Moderation & reporting. Follow moderator directions. Report breaches of confidentiality, harassment, or ethical concerns to the core team immediately.
- Accessibility & accommodation. Ask for and offer accommodations (time, format, reading preference). Be patient and adaptive.
- Membership expectations. Communicate absences; reciprocate feedback over time.
Enforcement: Two-step warnings, temporary suspension, and removal for repeated or severe breaches — including public sharing of member drafts.
